Watermark:
Condition:Medium quality vellum with holes (e.g. f. 48, f. 97) and stitches (e.g. f. 75, f. 85). In some instances heavily worn and the text has faded (e.g. f. 45). In other places folios are stained (e.g. f. 54). At the end of the manuscript probably two folios have been lost.

Quire structure:The manuscript generally consists of regular quaternions. Two folios (f. 6 and f. 7) have been added to the first quire. One folio (unfoliated) has been added to the third quire between f. 20 and f. 21. The eighth quire (f. 59 to f. 62) is a binion, as is the seventeenth quire (f. 127 to f. 130). In the latter case, the quire structure allows a prose text to start in a new quire after a number of verse texts. Probably two folios have been lost from the final quire.

Physical description

General illustration:Unillustrated.
General decoration:Each text is preceded by a rubricated title and opens with a large plain initial in red ink (height: 4 to 5 lines). Further subdivisions of the text by means of smaller plain initials in red ink (height: 2 lines). The first initial of the manuscript (f. 1ra) is decorated with flourishings in brown ink.
Evidence of readership:On f. 74r: in the upper margin 'de quo?u/n?oitiza. In the outer margin (13th c. hand) caim + abel. On f. 87vb: drawing of head in the margin. On f. 88rb: drawing of heads in the margin. On f. 89rb: drawing of head in the margin 'qui donne al poure si donne a deu'. On f. 95r: crude drawing of a knight on horseback in the lower margin. On f. 97r: attempt at crude drawing of a horse. On f. 111r: attempt at crude drawing of a horse.
Foliations description:Foliation in roman numerals centered in the upper margin of the recto. This foliation was added in the fourteenth century, after the additions to the manuscript had been made.

Scribe description:Textualis with two-compartment 'a' the upper compartment of which is open. Use of straight 's' in final position, but occassionally also round 's' in the same position. No use of 'v'. Abbreviations include 'p' with crossed descender, nasal bar also used for q(ue), apostrophe, superscript vowels and crossed tironian 'et'.
