Condition:Fine quality parchment, with wide margins. There are occasional tears (e.g. ff. 16 and 46) and holes (e.g. f. 50). Ink has sometimes rubbed (e.g. f. 1r, text restored by a modern hand), and a few stains render text illegible (e.g. f. 23v).

General illustration:One miniature (height: 10 lines) on f. 1ra, depicting the author at work, extended to form a foliate border in the gutter and upper margin.
General decoration:Chapters are marked by historiated initials (height: 6 lines), with coloured letters within gold frames. Paragraphs are marked by flourished initials (height: 2 lines), alternating red and blue (with decoration in the opposing colour). Guide letters are visible in the margins. Majuscules with orange highlighting.
Evidence of readership:Rubric (chapter headings) added at a later date.
Foliations description:Modern pencil numbering in the upper right corner of recto sides.

Scribe description:A regular Italian textualis of the late 14th c., whose traits include: two-compartment 'a' (open upper bow); 'h' with limb resting on baseline; both tall, round and trailing 's' all found in final position; 'u' in initial position; angular 3-shaped 'z'; abbreviations including uncrossed tironian 'et' and 'd(e)'.


Description15th-c. Gonzaga binding with 'i più tipici emblemi della famiglia, in particolare dell'età del marchese Ludovico' (Delcorno Branca 1998b, 390).
